Many great spiritual thinkers throughout history have left their mark on the world. It’s precious to look to their words for comfort and clarity. The beauty of quoting spiritual masters is that their wisdom transcends time, space, religion, and sect.
You can learn from a teacher who has been gone for thousands of years or was part of a teaching that is no longer in practice. For now, let’s learn from some modern teachers and glean from them knowledge about life and its many wonders.
Quotes About strength
When you listen to teachers of different faiths and denominations, you’ll often find a chord of truth that runs through all the teachings. Each spiritual guru has a special way of transmitting the truth of empowerment and wisdom creation, but each adds to the string of pearls that empowers us all.
Dr. Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science and one of the leading figures for Science of Mind, reminds us to “Stop trying, stop struggling; begin to be calm, to trust in the higher laws of life.” This calm security of mind is the source of great power, and we can learn to trust our minds and this strength within.
The founder and spiritual director of the Agape International Spiritual Center, Michael Beckwith, states that this inner strength is unlimited. Beckwith implores us to “Stop looking outside for help. You’re sourced and fuelled and funded by a renewable resource, which is within you. It never runs out. It is your Essence.”
So both these men offer an image of personal power, and they’re not the only ones. Joel Olsteen, a pastor and televangelist tells us that the creator offers opportunities for growth so we can strengthen our resolve.
According to Olsteen, “Difficult times don’t come your way just so you can survive them; God uses these times in your life to form and refine you.” In his words, we see that strength is within the present moment, the present predicament. By giving ourselves positive messages throughout the trying times, we can remember our internal and eternal source of strength.
Quotes About Love
Perhaps the most important lesson I’ve received from my teacher is that love is the open intelligence of the universe. Any teacher can tell you that, like strength, love comes from within and emanates out. Love is what we are made of. We can’t be separated from this essential part of ourselves, and we wouldn’t want to be.
Dr. Ernest Holmes says it perfectly, “Love is within us. It cannot be destroyed,” but he follows up with a warning, “It can be ignored. To the extent that we abandon love, we will feel it has abandoned us.” So we have to take responsibility for our sense of love, and this is so clear when we ignore our own need for love.
Everyone needs love. Everyone is deserving of love. The one love we can depend on is the love we grow. We watch it envelop our relationships, and this is obvious in the greater blossoming paradigm of self-love that we see in society and abroad.
Since love is the most important thing in our lives, we want to grow familiar with it. The kind of love that cannot be destroyed must also be a source of incredible power. It must also be that ever-present source of happiness that can seem far away.
Quotes About Happiness
Could it be that we have a theme? Will happiness be like strength and love? Something inherent in our spirit? I don’t think anyone would contest that nothing outside of ourselves can bring us joy. Even when the ones we love try to cheer us up on a gloomy day, we must choose to be happy first.
But how can we find happiness? It is precious to have a teacher open up this topic with a simple quote. The affirmation of unlimited happiness is life-changing. We don’t have to be ecstatic, but, certainly, allowing ourselves to be content with life as it happens is essential.
Rupert Spira is a leading teacher of non-duality under the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. He explores the root of happiness and notes that it is a very simple matter of affairs. Spira states, “Happiness is simply to allow everything to be exactly as it is from moment to moment.”
So, we can look inside ourselves even when we’re facing adversity and find happiness. We don’t have to fake our happiness, and we don’t have to feel bad about ourselves when we feel miserable. We simply notice that we are always free to respond to our world gracefully. Happiness is allowing ourselves to be exactly as we are, too.
“The discovery that peace, happiness and love are ever-present within our own Being, and completely available at every moment of experience, under all conditions, is the most important discovery that anyone can make.” -Rupert Spira
Quotes About Reality
Our reality is what we make it. We always have the ability to cherish our experiences, or at least to face them with an open mind. We make our own happiness because we lean into love whenever we can.
What do spiritual guides say about the nature of reality? Well, the founder of Balanced View and Dzogchen master Candice O’Denver explains that reality is synonymous with the mind. She means the most basic mind we can think with, not just the thoughts, but the one who has the thoughts — the one who’s thinking.
In O’Denver’s words, “The true nature of the mind is infinitely expansive pure awareness.” We can “Rest as awareness, for short moments, repeated many times until it becomes automatic.” This means that with practice, there is no limit to the mind.
We aren’t as small as we once thought. I hope that all of these quotes have instilled that truth in you today. We are great beings, capable of creating a reality of strength, love, and happiness. Michael Beckwith acknowledges our sublime nature and encourages people to “Stand fully in the now moment with gratitude, enthusiasm, openness, and readiness to respond to Life as it greets you.”
This is such a profound message to take responsibility for how we treat ourselves and others in our minds. What kind of space do we want to keep? The founder of Unlimited, Dr. Joe Dispenza, suggests we need positive messages and visualization for our lives and a connection and commitment to self-empowerment.
Dispenza says, “Your thoughts are incredibly powerful…[and] Life is about the management of energy. Where you place your attention is where you place your energy.” With willingness to go with the flow of our own energy, we can learn to live our lives fully, however that looks for YOU.
Sometimes, just hearing a teacher’s transmission can encourage and empower you. Sometimes, you have to sit with their words for a while. Journal about these quotes and reflect on their truth in your world, or simply meditate on them and affirm their power.
